The Windsor-Essex Cardiac Wellness Centre is a medically managed cardiac rehabilitation program that assists individuals following a cardiac event. The program responds to the growing concern of heart disease in the community by providing medical, educational, nutritional, psychosocial and exercise support for people with cardiac related concerns.
Participants work with the program’s team of professionals to develop a six-month plan of action that suits their personal needs while developing a better understanding of the heart, medications, nutrition, exercise regimen and stress management towards a healthy heart lifestyle. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and have suffered any one of the following events within the past two years: post heart attack (MI), post bypass surgery (CABG), post angioplasty (PTCA), post aortic/mitral valve surgery, cardiomyophathy, cardiac transplant, congestive heart failure, stable CAD/angina and unstable angina.
To join the Cardiac Wellness Program requires a referral form from a family physician, nurse practitioner or cardiologist. The program operates from its main location at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare and a satellite location at the Leamington Kinsmen Recreation Complex.
